Statement of Significance (as of designation - January 3, 2001):
On 15 March, 1781 the British Army defeated Major General Nathanael Greene at Guildford Court House in one of the most intense battles of the Revolutionary War. The victory cost Cornwallis over one-fourth of his army, causing him to retreat to Wilmington and then march into Virginia, where combined French and American forces compelled him to surrender at Yorktown on 19 October, 1781. Historians consider the Battle of Guilford Court House one of the final links in a chain of events that led to ultimate American victory in the Revolutionary War.

Condition:
The battlefield faces an imminent threat of development, as two key tracts measuring 4 acres and 2 acres are for sale. The owners of these tracts are trying to maximize profits by selling directly to developers, and are offering the tracts at above market value. The friends group for the battlefield would like to purchase the tracts, but cannot afford the inflated prices. The integrity of the battlefield will be significantly impacted if the land is developed.

There are no changes since the last reporting period.

Recommendation/Change since last report:
Acquisition of this critical part of this battlefield should be undertaken.
