Statement of Significance (as of designation - July 19, 1964):
This is the type site of the Parkin phase, a Late Mississippian and protohistoric palisaded village with one mound. It may be the town of Casqui mentioned in the narratives of the 16th century Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto.

The landmark is in satisfactory condition being protected by the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism and reserached by the Arkansas Archeological Survey.

The Northern Ohio School (1910) has been renovated which is not on the landmark but adjacent to the landmark, part of the state park.The school is related to the history of the archeological site.
