Statement of Significance (as of designation - November 11, 1971):
For much of his life, this property was associated with John Roderigo Dos Passos (1896-1970), acclaimed as one of the major and most influential of modern American writers. His early works, based on his experiences in World War I, stripped war and military life of the romanticism with which they were traditionally viewed; in the USA trilogy (1930-1936), Dos Passos invented a new form of storytelling in which social history itself became the dynamic drive of the work, instead of merely its framework.
