Statement of Significance (as of designation - July 17, 1971):
For most of his first 21 years, this cottage is where Eugene G. O'Neill (1888-1953), one of America's outstanding dramatists, spent his summers. The house served as inspiration for several of O'Neill's plays, including LONG DAYS' JOURNEY INTO NIGHT.

Condition:
The front porch is in need of renovating, due to structural issues. The work is in process at present

Multiple grants have been received for educational programming related to the landmark.
