Statement of Significance (as of designation - July 28, 1983):
Completed in 1700, this is a fine example of the architectural transition from the 17th to the 18th century in New England. The oldest known 3-story upright structure in Rhode Island, and perhaps the earliest wooden structure of its form extant in New Engalnd, it features some of the most elaborate interior decoration of its era.
