Statement of Significance (as of designation - May 11, 1976):
From 1916 until his death, this farm house--known as the Home Place--was the residence of Samuel Taliaferro Rayburn (1882-1961). "Mr. Sam" served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1913 until his death in 1961, and was Speaker (1940-47, 1949-53, 1955-61) twice as long as any other individual to hold that office. His astute political sense preserved the delicate balance between factions of the Democratic Party.

Condition:
The building is in excellent condition. The condition of this NHL has been closely evaluated several times in recent years, most recently in 2007.

There are no changes to report.
