Statement of Significance (as of designation - May 15, 1975):
From 1888 until his death, this was the residence of Thomas B. Reed (1839-1902), the powerful Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives. In 1890, "Czar Reed" reformed House procedures with the introduction of the "Reed Rules."
