Statement of Significance (as of designation - November 7, 1973):
Constructed in the 1840s, this is an unusually sophisticated Greek Revival style plantation house with small Doric entrance and limestone-paved rear courtyard. The interior contains one of the South's most breathtaking stairways, climbing in a series of double flights and bridge-like landings to the rooftop observatory.

Condition:
the landmark is in good condition.

General maintenance of the home. No major renovation work done in the past two years.
