Statement of Significance (as of designation - January 7, 1976):
This was the home of Robert Kennicott (1835-1866), 19th-century naturalist, explorer, and founder of the Chicago Academy of Sciences, whose career illustrates the development of scientific research in the Midwest.

Condition:
Excessive noise from I-294 tollway disturbs the historic farm ambience. Noise from traffic can now be heard in the buildings. The SHPO reports no threats to property itself.

Recreated wetland prairie complex on front lawn area to duplicated 1850s time period.

Recommendation/Change since last report:
Construction of a sound barrier on an eastern berm and planting a landscaped mixture of bushes with native prairie could help dampen some of the noise. A boundary study is recommended to define and protect the NHL. Monitoring should continue.
