Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 19, 1960):
Abraham Lincoln's family lived in southern Indiana from 1816 to 1830, a period in which he grew to manhood and received his early instruction in reading the law. The traditional gravesite of Lincoln's mother and the site of the Lincoln cabin are here.
