Statement of Significance (as of designation - May 28, 1987):
Constructed in 1909-10, this is the only remaining structural log railroad depot in the country. Built for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad, it helped establish the rustic sense of place of the Grand Canyon by being the first building the railway passengers encountered upon arriving. Symbolic of the "destination resort" that the railroad developed Grand Canyon into, it is one of the handful of rustic depots constructed.

Condition:
Severe deterioration of some log columns has occurred, as well as some sill logs. Wood roofing is in need of replacement as it in reaching the end of its physical life. Historic wood windows are in deteriorated condition.

An NFPA fully automatic fire protection system was installed 2007. An HSR is at 100% draft completion status, and will be completed by October 2008. Some minor rehabilitation of the public restrooms is under way.
