Statement of Significance (as of designation - November 7, 1973):
This imposing plantation house, dating from 1814-1817 and designed by William Nichols, is one of the South's most accomplished examples of a five-part Palladian villa. The frame building's central block is connected to dependencies connected by curved hyphens. A large belvedere above the central block provides expansive views across Edenton Bay.
