Statement of Significance (as of designation - July 4, 1961):
Zebulon Pike raised the American flag over Spanish soil at the stockade after leading the second official U.S. expedition into the Louisiana Territory in 1807. It was the first major expedition into the Southwest.

There are no threats indicated as of this reporting period.

A number of funding sources have been pursued to implement the master plan, but substantial funding has not been awarded.

Recommendation/Change since last report:
The state is encouraged to continue to seek funding to continue the archeological investigations and complete the master plan.
