Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 21, 1981):
From 1915 to 1955, Stan Hywet Hall was the home of Frank Augustus Seiberling (1859-1955), founder of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and the Seiberling Rubber Company. He was, like Harvey Firestone and B.F. Goodrich, a titan in the American rubber industry.

Condition:
The chimneys are deteriorating and two have already come down because they were beyond repair. Repair of some of the others has scaffolding affecting the aesthetic view of the main house. The wall around the outside of the property was poorly constructed originally and is continuing to deteriorate. The foundation rock beneath the overlook of the lagoon has shifted and is currently closed off. Approximately 1/3 of the foundation needs to be waterproofed and is expected to be completed in 2007-2008. There is a 3. 43 acre parcel of property for sale across from the main entrance which could be a potential threat if it is developed and changes the traffic pattern. The service and public use roads and walkways need to be ground down and improved.

Currently restoring the south side garden walkway. A $250,000 Save America’s Treasures Grant has been received to make repairs to the chimneys. The foundation waterproofing continues and the Conservatory and Gatehouse were recently restored.
