Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 8, 1976):
This is one of the finest works of John Anderson Lankford (1874-1942), a pioneer Black architect who helped gain recognition for Afro-American architects in the architectural community.

Condition:
The Chapelle Administration Building was severely deteriorated.

Restoration of the Chapelle Administration Building was completed in 2001 using a grant from the Historic Black Colleges and Universities fund.
