Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 8, 1976):
From 1913 to 1929 this was the residence of William E. Borah (1865-1940), leading Republican progressive Senator from Idaho, who was a powerful force in foreign affairs during the 1920s. He was a leader of the "irreconcilables" who defeated President Wilson's League of Nations, and a leader of the isolationists in the 1930s.
