Statement of Significance (as of designation - June 2, 1978):
Completed in 1906, this was until 1940 the home of the prestigious jewelry store, considered for half a century the leader of the jewelry trade in America. Designed by McKim, Mead, and White as a copy of a 16th century Venetian palazzo.
