Statement of Significance (as of designation - May 28, 1987):
Built in 1915, this structure is characteristic of contemporary architecture in the San Francisco Bay area. The use of highly expressive basic forms and simple, natural materials was prompted by the harsh climate at the building's site high in the Sierra Nevada. The lodge is a good example of a building's design being determined by site and materials, and not by style.
