Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 23, 1980):
This sprawling, Mediterranean-style villa, home of Marjorie Merriweather Post, exemplifies the baronial way of life of the wealthy who built mansions in Florida during the Florida land boom of the 1920s.

Vibration and emissions from aircraft from nearby airport may be causing and exacerbating deterioration of the historic architectural materials. The owner, who donated a preservation easement to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, sought to drop preservation restrictions on the easement and to develop a marina, however the project has not been initiated.

Recommendation/Change since last report:
Prior to consideration of runway extension or change in flight paths, or to granting a permit for a marina, the responsible Federal agencies need to consult with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation under the Section 106 process.
