Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 4, 1992):
From her launching in 1871 until 1920, this two-masted schooner plied the waters of New York Harbor and its environs, carrying a variety of cargoes: coal, seed oysters, brick, and lumber. After 1920, she served in Maine's Penobscot Bay; in 1946, TABER was a Maine windjammer. TABER is apparently the oldest documented American sailing vessel to have been in continous service.
