Statement of Significance (as of designation - July 17, 1991):
From its beginnings in the mid-18th century, the Homestead has enjoyed the reputation of a first class hotel and resort. An excellent example of Georgian and Colonial Revival architecture situated in the Allegheny Mountains, the present Homestead dates from 1902. Its most impressive architectural feature is its elegant Colonial Revival tower, which was designed by Warren and Wetmore of New York. The resort provides luxurious accommodations, excellent cuisine, and beautiful natural scenery for its guests.
