Statement of Significance (as of designation - October 3, 1985):
Constructed in 1965, this facility was used to prepare U.S. astronauts to land on the moon. It employed a mock Lunar Excursion Module attached to a fixed facility. The experience gained showed astronauts could master skills needed to land the LEM on the moon.

Condition:
The Lunar Landing Research Facility has recently been upgraded to accommodate the research associated with the Constellation Project.
