Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 23, 1987):
In just eight years this small industrial village became a beautifully coherent planned town. There are five Richardson buildings in this historic district: The Ames Free Library, The Oakes Ames Memorial Hall, The Gate Lodge at Langwater, The Gardener's Cottage at Langwater, and The Old Colony Railroad Station.

Condition:
There were no stated threats to the NHL indicated.

There have been a few grants awarded to restore the Unity Church building.
