Statement of Significance (as of designation - April 12, 1993):
Norridgewock was first mentioned by name in European sources in a document published in 1625. Although artifacts associated with nearly 6,000 years of human occupation have been found in and around the area, deposits dating from the Historic Contact Period comprise the densest, most extensive and by far the most significant body of intact archeological resources at Norridgewock.
