Statement of Significance (as of designation - June 23, 1965):
This was the boyhood home of Daniel C. Beard (1850-1941), author, illustrator, and one of the key figures in the movement that led to the founding of the Boy Scouts of America in 1910. "Uncle Dan" designed the Boy Scout uniform, wrote a monthly column for "Boy's Life", and served as a National Scout Commissioner from 1910 until his death in 1941.
