The Missouri River crossing at Arrow Rock, noted by French cartographers (1723) and Lewis and Clark (1804), figured prominently in the very early trail-breaking expeditions that opened the West. In 1817 a permanent ferry was established at what was to become the starting point for the traders from Old Franklin and Boon's Lick who operated on the Santa Fe Trail.

Permit granted to local farmer by Missouri Dept. of Natural Resources for construction of a confined animal feeding operation (4800 hogs) 2 miles from village and historic sites.
