Statement of Significance (as of designation - July 19, 1964):
First reported by Lewis and Clark in 1804, this is a Skidi Pawnee Indian village on the Loup River. A portion of the site has not been cultivated, rendering it the best preserved Pawnee community in the state.

Condition:
The site has had looting problems in the past. A portion of the property continues to be cultivated for farming, with the remainder under highly intensive grassing.
