Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 19, 1960):
A key post in U.S. Army fortifications in West Texas, established to guard the San Antonio-El Paso road. It rose to peak strength between 1879 and 1885.
Condition:
Fort Davis remains in good condition.
A recent threat of a cell tower also within the forts view shed was successfully eliminate with the assistance of the Texas Historical Commission.
Recommendation/Change since last report:
Continued preservation maintenance of the site will help to ensure the historic integrity of the fort.
