Statement of Significance (as of designation - May 23, 1966):
Established in the late 1200s or early 1300s and abandoned by about 1600, this is among the largest of the prehistoric Indian settlements on the Pajarito Plateau, showing a variety of architectural forms and building techniques. It is located on the Santa Clara Indian Reservation.

There are no threats indicated.

The road that leads up to Puye has been designated a Scenic Byway. Santa Clara Pueblo received a grant to construct a highway pull-out that will provide visitors withinformation regarding Puye, Santa Clara Pueblo, and the surrounding region.
