Statement of Significance (as of designation - July 4, 1961):
Home for 21 years, until his death in 1862, of Martin Van Buren, the eighth president of the United States.

Condition:
The state's right-of-way on Route 9H, directly in front of the NHL, could lead to changing this from a two-lane road to a four-lane road.

Mechanical upgrades to all HVAC and emergency systems.
