Statement of Significance (as of designation - November 13, 1966):
Home (1905-32) of George Eastman, who made photography a popular pastime. He developed a simple camera in 1888 and marketed the first roll film with it. With this development, everyone could participate in a process that had formerly been the sole province of those with formidable, expensive equipment and infinte patience.
