Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 21, 1965):
From the late 1880s until his death, this three story shingled house was the residence of Daniel Coit Gilman (1831-1908), American educator. As the first president of Johns Hopkins University (1875-1902), Gilman made graduate education a recognized university responsibility.
