Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 21, 1965):
From 1833 to 1836, this two story brick structure was the home of William H. McGuffey. While living here, McGuffey wrote the first three of his six ECLECTIC READERS.

Condition:
The house and grounds are maintained regularly by museum and university (Miami University) staff.

he site management is concerned about the amount of weight the second floor enclosed porch (used as a conference center) and the first floor parlor can support.
