Statement of Significance (as of designation - July 19, 1964):
This assemblage of prehistoric Hopewellian earthworks, notable for the precision of their layout and the size of their plan, stands as evidence of the amount of planning and effort which must have gone into the development of this complex, large-scale building program.

The cultural resource management plan funded under an NPS Challenge Cost Share grant with additional funding from the National Trust for Historic Preservation was completed in 2003. The recommendations have not yet been implemented by the Ohio Historical Society, which has leased the site as a golf course since the early 20th century.

Recommendation/Change since last report:
Access by the public and interpretation are current issues of concern.
