Statement of Significance (as of designation - July 4, 1961):
From 1849 until his death, Wheatland, a 17-room brick house, was the residence of James Buchanan (1791-1868), 15th President of the United States (1857-1861).

Condition:
The landmark could use to have its NHL nomination updated to encompass additional resources and themes as well as boundaries.
