Statement of Significance (as of designation - January 29, 1964):
Begun in the early 1850s, this complex symbolizes the strong cultural and religious individuality of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). The Tabernacle's unsupported domed roof is one of the largest in the world.

Condition:
The square is in excellent condition and well maintained. The owner conducted an extensive review of the tabernacle's ability to withstand a seismic event; it was determined that the building required seismic retrofitting.

The tabernacle is undergoing a complete rehabilitation, with seismic upgrades to stabilize the walls and interior ceiling. The interior floor is being reconstructed to allow for rooms/mechanical underneath. The exterior will retain its original appearance.
