Statement of Significance (as of designation - July 19, 1964):
Cyrus McCormick (1809-1884), inventor, manufacturer, and philanthropist, lived and worked here. McCormick's invention of the mechanical reaper in 1834 helped revolutionize agriculture. Both his workshop and farmhouse have been preserved.
