Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 19, 1960):
From 1790 until his death, this was the property of John Marshall (1755-1835). After brief service as Secretary of State (1800-01), Marshall became the fourth Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, in which office he remained until his death.

Condition:
Some lingering moisture concerns, but no known major threat at this time. Outdaed HVAC system should be replaced.

The landmark's roof was replaced in summer 2008 and is seeking funding to replace the HVAC system
