Statement of Significance (as of designation - May 23, 1968):
Sandburg, the poet, novelist, and writer of a Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of Lincoln, lived here from 1945 until his death in 1967. C.G. Memminger, the builder of the house, was Secretary of the Treasury for the Confederacy.

Condition:
The landmark is in "good condition" and the park continues to implement the actions detailed in the General Management Plan.
