Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 21, 1965):
From 1755 to 1761, this gambrel roofed, clapboard house was the home of Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828), best known for his portraits of George Washington and other prominent political figures.

The current condition of the Museum is satisfactory. Fundraising for restoration is ongoing and financial support is much needed to sustain this national treasure.

Recommendation/Change since last report:
The estimated cost to repair the museum roof is $10,000.
