Statement of Significance (as of designation - August 11, 1969):
As a boy, Thomas Jefferson spent the years 1745 to 1752 at this plantation, where his father was acting as guardian for a relative. This 2 story early-Georgian frame house (c. 1712) is an outstanding example of an H-shaped structure in the British Colonies; it has remarkably unaltered interior decoration and trim and a well-preserved complex of 8 outbuildings nearby.
