Statement of Significance (as of designation - November 7, 1973):
Constructed in 1754 by the British, the fort is a little-altered example of an 18th century log fur trading post. In September 1775, it served as the starting point and principal supply base for Col. Benedict Arnold's march on Quebec.

Significant progress is being made reducing moisture levels in the main house cellars.
