Statement of Significance (as of designation - November 11, 1971):
Dating from about 1800, this notable Federal-style mansion was designed by its builder-owner, George Carter. It is constructed of brick, covered with stucco, and laid out in a 5-part plan; the extensive formal gardens were added after 1803.
