Statement of Significance (as of designation - November 11, 1971):
Built for Rebecca Tayloe Lee and her husband, Francis Lightfoot Lee, this 2-story structure is of stuccoed local stone. The couple resided here until their deaths in 1797. Francis Lightfoot Lee served in the Continental Congress (1775-79) and signed the Declaration of Independence and Articles of Confederation.

Menokin's finely-detailed interior wood paneling has been in storage for years. It will be conserved using funds from a 2002 Save America's Treasures grant for $366,000.
