Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 30, 1970):
Built 1807-1808 by Capt. William Nickels, shipmaster, this large three story, L-shaped townhouse in the Adamesque-Federal style is crowned by a low hip roof and features an elaborate facade that combines Corinthian pilasters, an elliptical fanlight, and a Palladian and a lunette window.
