Statement of Significance (as of designation - May 15, 1970):
Completed in 1841, this adobe building served the Commandant General of Northern California. The house conforms in all basic respects to the prototype presented in the Larkin House in Monterey in its horizontal massing, two story structure combining timber framin and adobe shell, and upper-story full-length porch.
