Statement of Significance (as of designation - April 15, 1970):
Founded in 1629 by Franciscan Fray Juan Ramirez, this is a large, impressive example of the Spanish Colonial mission church in New Mexico, blending a European plan and general form with Pueblo construction and decorative detail.

Condition:
The condition of the Mission Church has improved as the Pueblo of Acoma preservation crew continues to focus its work on the multi-year preservation project.

The latex paint has been removed from the sanctuary and replaced with traditional paints. Preservation treatments on the roof and the altar have been completed.
