Statement of Significance (as of designation - May 15, 1975):
The army was stationed here to maintain Federal authority in the Mormon territory in the 1860s. The fort also represented an effort to protect transcontinental telegraph lines, mail, and transportation routes.

Condition:
There are no threats to the landmark at this time.

The US Army 96th Regional Readiness Command has proposed building the Utah Freedom Memorial at Fort Douglas, and has determined that the structure will have no adverse effect on the NHL.
