Statement of Significance (as of designation - December 30, 1970):
Designed by the Boston architectural firm of Cummings and Sears and constructed from 1874-1875, Old South Church is modeled after the style of a north Italian Gothic church. It is one of the finest examples of High Victorian Gothic ecclesiastical architecture in New England.

Condition:
Though the exterior has been restored, extensive deferred infrastructure work is needed.
