Statement of Significance (as of designation - November 11, 1971):
Francis Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940), spokesman for the Jazz Age, wrote several stories and his first published novel, THIS SIDE OF PARADISE, in this Victorian rowhouse. The novels "The Beautiful and the Damned" and "The Great Gatsby" quickly followed.

Recent activities by the homeowner include installation of a new skylight, replacing a former leaking light. The built-up roof has also been recoated in 2005. Basement water problems still exist in the basement, with efflorescence on the walls. As reported in 2004, a water drainage system is needed on the exterior and the interior needs to be re-pointed. A contractor is being contacted for identifying the water source and addressing the water damage. Until water problems are addressed, this property will remain on the "Watch" list.
